Green Plains' Superior, Iowa ethanol plant passes one billion gallons
Green Plains said its ethanol plant in Superior, Iowa has produced one billion gallons, the company announced through Business Wire. For a single dry-mill plant, that is a long, steady run of grind. It does not move the market, and for a US jobber buying blendstock it changes nothing about this week's rack.
Still, it is the one genuine biofuels item on the wire today, and it points at the quiet part of the business that keeps working while the policy fights get the headlines. A plant that has run long enough to clear a billion gallons has survived thin crush margins and a long run of RFS rewrites.
What is not on the wire today matters too. Nothing moved on RIN prints or RFS volumes, and there was no update on the West Coast renewable diesel build-out. For a sector that usually generates a headline an hour, it is a slow day.
The E15 name collision
Elphinstone added a vehicle it calls the E15 Fuel & Lube to its underground mining line, a 15-tonne carrier that hauls bulk diesel and lube to the rock face so production fleets refuel in place instead of driving back to a workshop. Read past the name. This E15 has nothing to do with 15 percent ethanol blends. It is a diesel-and-oil tender for hard-rock mines, and the item lands as SSH Group moves to buy Elphinstone's mechanical arm. For a US fuel hauler it is a non-event, worth flagging only so it does not get wired into an ethanol search by accident.
Rovuma LNG
OneSubsea won the contract to supply subsea production systems for the Rovuma LNG project off Mozambique. The project is overseas and has no bearing on US biofuels or RIN values. A c-store operator in Ohio can skip it.
What to watch
The Green Plains number is a backward look. The forward questions for US biofuels are the usual ones, and none of them moved today. EPA still has to set the next round of RFS blending volumes. D4 and D6 RIN values could hold or slip from here. Renewable diesel demand on the coasts keeps pulling soybean oil and feedstock away from the biodiesel pool. The billion-gallon number is about one plant's longevity, not about where RIN prices are headed. Watch the RIN tape and the RFS docket for that.
