Two Maine senators ask Trump to release heating oil reserve as costs rise
Susan Collins and Angus King asked President Trump to release supplies from the federal heating oil reserve as heating oil costs climb heading into winter. A release would put barrels into the market before the coldest weeks, which could take some pressure off wholesale distillate and give delivered customers a little room on price.

The gas squeeze
The International Gas Union says global natural gas supply may stay tighter than it should through next summer, with Europe struggling to cover winter needs and Asia competing for the same cargoes. Firm gas keeps a floor under home heating costs, and when gas gets expensive some heating load shifts back toward heating oil and propane. If the squeeze holds, it could keep distillate demand firmer than a normal shoulder season would.
